This is my first posting here. I've been lurking for a few months, but I didnt feel like "one of the group" until I had my official WLS date. I wish now I would have posted earlier, but....what can I say?
Anyways, my date is February 9th at 0730 sharp. I've been reading and re-reading my notebook from the doctor's office, "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies", and Susan Maria's book "Before and After". I've been taking Bariatric Advantage vitamins for couple of months now, bought my snow cone machine for post op, Magic Bullet personal blender, measuring utensils and digital kitchen scale. Begining 3 days ago, I've sworn off Coca-Cola (not a small undertaking for me, since I'm a coke-aholic from way back) but, so far, so good. I've lost a few pounds but nothing dramatic yet. I'm getting my garage in order and dusting off all the QVC exercise equipment I've bought over the years (I think Curves would be envious of what is in my garage! ha ha).
So - I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I live in Hertford, NC but I work in Norfolk, so getting to the support groups will not really be a problem, so I'll probably see everyone there at one time or another.
I do have one question: I'm more of a savory taste oriented guy, instead of the fruit flavored water and supplements, so I intend to use broth as much as possible in my first week post op, but my research has shown it to be pretty low in protein, 2 grams per serving. Is there some sort of tasteless protein supplement I can add to my broth to give it some protein punch? I've only bought one container of the chocolate protein supplement from GNC (Wheybolic Extreme 60) which is pretty good and makes a great frozen shake, but not sure how chocolate would taste with chicken broth. I'm fighting the urge to buy food stuffs now but will wait until after my surgery to see what sort of tastes I have. Thanks for any suggestions anyone might have!
