I Got A Date!!!!! woohooooo!!

Postby carlnc on January 5th, 2009, 9:10 pm

This is my first posting here. I've been lurking for a few months, but I didnt feel like "one of the group" until I had my official WLS date. I wish now I would have posted earlier, but....what can I say?

Anyways, my date is February 9th at 0730 sharp. I've been reading and re-reading my notebook from the doctor's office, "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies", and Susan Maria's book "Before and After". I've been taking Bariatric Advantage vitamins for couple of months now, bought my snow cone machine for post op, Magic Bullet personal blender, measuring utensils and digital kitchen scale. Begining 3 days ago, I've sworn off Coca-Cola (not a small undertaking for me, since I'm a coke-aholic from way back) but, so far, so good. I've lost a few pounds but nothing dramatic yet. I'm getting my garage in order and dusting off all the QVC exercise equipment I've bought over the years (I think Curves would be envious of what is in my garage! ha ha).

So - I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I live in Hertford, NC but I work in Norfolk, so getting to the support groups will not really be a problem, so I'll probably see everyone there at one time or another.

I do have one question: I'm more of a savory taste oriented guy, instead of the fruit flavored water and supplements, so I intend to use broth as much as possible in my first week post op, but my research has shown it to be pretty low in protein, 2 grams per serving. Is there some sort of tasteless protein supplement I can add to my broth to give it some protein punch? I've only bought one container of the chocolate protein supplement from GNC (Wheybolic Extreme 60) which is pretty good and makes a great frozen shake, but not sure how chocolate would taste with chicken broth. I'm fighting the urge to buy food stuffs now but will wait until after my surgery to see what sort of tastes I have. Thanks for any suggestions anyone might have!

After hearing people rave about Unjury chicken soup flavor, I finally bought some and I am hooked. It is DELICIOUS. I am on my 6th can in 2 months. 21 grams of protein, 90 calories in an 8 oz cup of hot water.

http://www.unjury.com or call them at 1-800-517-5111. they are very nice and helpful. I understand that their other protein supplements are also wonderful.

Right, Unjury chicken flavored broth is good. later, it's good with vegetables. Weight-loss forever also sells their products to the public. There is a good pineapple drink with limited sugar. It also can be mixed with minute-maid or tropicana light lemonades which have no sugar. They aren't as sweet as Crystal light. I lived on homemade limeades and hot tea after surgery. Water doesn't sit well- even now and coffee no longer taste good. Don't buy too much brfore surgery, because your taste really does change. Good luck. Doris 4-16 - 134lbs

I haven't tried Unjury but Sartforme has a good Chicken Bouillon that was 16g of protein per packet. I used that after my surgery.

Hi Carl,
Great news on your date! Yep, it seems everyone agrees about the Chicken unjury. I have a hard time with any protein drink right now including the unjury! But the suggestion of trying it with vegetable sounds pretty good too and I guess you could even add real chicken! You'd have to wait until 1 week after in your case and use the bullet to pulverize your foods!
Just use the list that is in your book and if you like seafood, after that week, it's amazing what you can eat- just have to be careful and take it easy! I used Molly Mcbutter to eat with shrimp and also the I Can't Believe it's not Butter spray too.
